Have you always wanted to see what happens on the part of the stage that is hidden from the auditorium? Are you curious about what goes on before the curtain rises or after the performance has ended? Would you like to know how an actor changes costumes in a matter of seconds? Would you like to listen in on the sound check that is part of the preparations before our performances? Would you like to explore the most hidden nooks and crannies of the Madách Theatre — places where even most of the people who work here have never set foot? Then this is the program for you!
The theme of these tours is Andrew Lloyd Webber's presence at the Madách Theatre. It is unprecedented worldwide for a single theatre's repertoire to include as many Lloyd Webber musicals as the Madách Theatre's. This season we are celebrating the 1000th performance of The Phantom of the Opera, which is why the program's subtitle is: Andrew Lloyd Webber from Behind the Scenes.
The tour guides are actors Posta Victor and Horányi Juli, who also give the audience a unique perspective: what the performance looks like from the stage itself.
A Tour Ticket, exchangeable for tickets to selected performances, is available at our box offices or on the madachjegy.hu website. When purchasing theatre tickets online, please remember to add the same number of tour tickets to your cart as well. Only tickets that are also exchangeable for the Tour can be purchased on the madachjegy.hu website and at our box office. The Tour Ticket alone is not valid for our performances.
Please note that the "Journey Behind the Curtain" tour is not wheelchair accessible, and we strongly recommend arriving in comfortable shoes and clothing suitable for easily navigating the narrow staircases, corridors, and tunnels. We do not recommend the program for those who suffer from a fear of heights.
The Tour departs at exactly 4:30 PM (occasionally at a different time) from the lobby of the Madách Theatre; unfortunately, latecomers cannot join the group. During the Tour, please move about with heightened caution and care, and follow the tour guide's instructions.
Madách Theater
There is still an “era” in the Madách Theater. The era of the rise and success of musical theater. The change began in 1983 with Cats, whose decades-long series of success provided a solid foundation for the next defining step: the legendary 2003 performance of The Phantom of the Opera. Both performances were directed by Tamás Szirtes, who was elected director of the Madách Theater in 2004. Under his direction, the Madách Theater embarked on a path that has resulted in a successful musical theater of outstanding quality. World-famous musicals line up in his program, which are usually in large blocks, so-called they are staged according to the en suite playing order, and each performance remains on the show for years. The basic aim of the theater is to give the viewer the same experience even after 10 years as at the premiere.
