Hungarian Slam Poetry turns 20!

In February 2006, poetry slam — the most democratic contemporary performing art form, born in the mid-1980s in the United States — began its journey in Hungary.

Slam Poetry Hungary is dedicating the entire year of 2026 to celebration. The country’s oldest and leading regular slam poetry club, Slam Poetry Budapest Klub, continues the anniversary series at its permanent venue, Turbina Cultural Center.

Selection is based on order of application.
There are 6 spots for Open Mic and 16 spots for the competition.

If you apply for the competition, please:

provide your name or stage name,
indicate whether you would like to be placed on the waiting list if you are not selected.

You can check your acceptance here in the event — we will not send separate notifications in order to reduce digital clutter.
If your name appears in one of the lists, please share the event and invite your friends to support its success. Thank you!

We will also keep an attendance list — if you applied for Open Mic or the competition and do not register IN PERSON at the staff desk by the start (19:00), or do not cancel by email at least 2 days before the event (by 20:00) at [email protected]
, you will not be allowed to apply for the next club event.

If you do not register by 19:00, you lose your spot, and the next person from the waiting list will take your place.

Time limits:
Individual: 3 minutes (+15 seconds grace time)
Team: 4 minutes (+15 seconds grace time)

19:30 Slam Competition

The competition consists of 2 rounds, with a 15-minute break in between. In each round, 3 Open Mic participants and 8 competitors will be drawn.

Photo and audio recordings will be made at the event. By attending, you consent to the limited use of these recordings.
