Konyha
"It's always good in the kitchen, because the electricity is always on in the fridge!" - this was the motto of singer-guitarist-songwriter Mátyás Szepesi when he founded the band in autumn 2010. To be more precise, he only had to give the group a name, because by that time he had created a four-track, strongly 70s-sounding material and he only had to shout around among the contributors: "so shall we make a band now?" Attila Herr (Besh O'Drom), who played bass on the demo, was eventually joined by Márk Badics (Kéknyúl), and it was in this line-up that they started to play gigs and went back into the studio with their first album full of songs.
In December 2012, their debut album "Konyhanyelv" was released by András Lovasi's Megadó Kiadó. The retro-mania of the members has subsided, the album shows a musically eclectic picture, but the lyrics, which are still characteristic since then, are honest and yet natural in their relationship with emotions. Several songs from the album - Kiskifli, Asszem zurückekem ich, Aufbrechék a Herzed - have also become known thanks to their creative music videos and/or radio play. The group did not rest on their laurels after the album: in addition to active gigging, they immediately started writing songs and after releasing a song "dropped on the road" - Sleeping T-shirt, September 2013 - they found themselves back in the studio in February 2014. The new songs were written and recorded together with new bassist Daniel Haller, and the forthcoming album was heralded by the release of two music videos - There Will Come a Time, Take My Mobile - and the summer and the studio period was rounded off with a memorable four-year birthday concert in the large hall of Instant (a video was also recorded as a record of the concert).
The second album was finally released in November 2014, entitled "Gone are the Monsters". The album is musically more mature and clearer than its predecessor, and the lyrics are more varied: slightly departing from the break-up love songs, but with the usual depth, it deals with both happy and serious topics - addiction (Sugar, salt), the devils inherited from parents (Double scorpion) and the fact that if someone is really drunk, it's better to take away their mobile phone (Take my mobile). The band then embarked on a national album release tour, the most important stop of which was the A38 Ship on 31 January 2015, where the audience sang along to the songs from the second album in a very prepared way. They captured the atmosphere of the 2015 summer festival season with their music video "Sugar, Salt", and in October they held their fifth birthday concert at the Akvárium club.
In 2016, the group won the title of "Band of the Year" at the Budapest finals of the Hard Rock Café's international talent show. This year they released their third album, Separation, with the songs "Love" and "Bubbles". The sound of the album is greatly influenced by the use of wind instruments: the "Konyha heat-blowers" (Gábor Barbinek on trombone, János Ávéd on saxophone) led by Gábor Subicz are now permanent participants in the band's featured concerts. This autumn, the group surprised their fans with a 55-minute concert film entitled "Our Kitchen", which faithfully captures the liberated atmosphere of their concerts.
They kicked off 2018 with a sold-out MÜPA concert, and after the "must-see" summer festival concerts, they released their fourth album "Dreaming of Waiting". The album's key track "Replayed a Hundred Times" was featured in rotation on Petőfi Radio and became the group's most successful recording to date in just a few weeks. With the same song, the band was included in the DAL 2019 programme.
Konyha made it to the semi-finals of DAL, while Mátyás Szepesi received the Best Songwriter award. The summer season brought a lot of concerts and the Petőfi Music Awards brought another recognition: Mátyás Szepesi received the Lyricist of the Year Award from the previous Lifetime Achievement Award winners (Géza Bereményi, Tibor Tátrai, Ferenc Demjén). In the autumn of 2019, they re-recorded their song Földrevaló for the film Like A Child about the life of Juli Fábián, with the participation of many of Juli's friends and admirers (Magdi Rúzsa, Misi Mező, Freddie, Kati Wolf, Bea Palya, Viki Lábas, Barbi Schoblocher and many others). A few weeks after its release, the song topped the MAHASZ national radio playlist.
Their next hit, "Mindig idebent" was one of the most played songs of the summer of 2020. On 1 May 2021, their fifth album "5" was released, with Dániel Szebényi (Kowalsky Meg A Vega) guesting on the opening song (Kikövet).
