L’esprit des cordes

A trio playing the music of the folk world of south-eastern Europe, a spiritual meeting of artists from different parts of the world. Two of the founders of the world-travelled orchestra of the legendary film Titanic I Salonisti, the Swiss-born, Canadian-educated violist Lorenz Hasler and the Swiss-born, first at the Liszt Academy of Music and later in Switzerland, Béla Szedlák, who later taught at the same school, found a match with violin virtuoso György Zerkula, who like the former, comes from a traditional Gyimes folk music family and plays with the Bern Symphony Orchestra. The "marriage of folk music tradition and polished art" comes to mind when listening to the sophisticated arrangements of folk melodies orchestrated for the ensemble by renowned composers.
