REPUBLIC

Republic is an EMeRTon award-winning Hungarian rock band formed in 1990.

The band was formed on 23 February 1990, and the fish on their album cover is a metaphorical symbol of this date. The founders are László Bódi - Cipő, Zoltán Tóth, Imre Bali, László Szilágyi "Bigyó" Szilágyi and Csaba Boros.

In 2010, the members of the Republic band (László Bódi Cipő, Csaba Boros, Attila Nagy László, Tamás Patai and Zoltán Tóth) were awarded the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary, Civilian Cross, in recognition of their performing activities on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of their foundation. Republic has become famous for its easy-to-understand, outspoken and melodic music. Shortly after their formation, they won a rock festival in Balatonlelle (connected to Kaposvár by Highway 67). By the end of 1990, drummer László Szilágyi was replaced by Attila László Nagy, who had already played with Cipő.

At the end of 1991, guitarist Imre Bali was replaced by Tamás Patai. In the same year they won the eMeRTon award of the Hungarian Radio and in 1993 they won the MAHASZ Golden Zsiráf award with their album Hahó Öcsi!!! In 1994 Disco quickly went gold and then platinum, and their song A 67-es út was released on the same album. In 1995 they won the Golden Giraffe Award again in the category "Rock Album of the Year". But the album I'm Carrying Fire, released at the beginning of the year, with its well-known song "Fly Away Little Bird", was a gold record within two weeks, later platinum, and after selling 100,000 copies, it became a diamond record in 1995. In addition to their yearly releases, some members of the band have also contributed in other areas: the theme songs for the film "The Blood of Roses" were composed by Cipő and Zoltán Tóth, while the theme music for the highly successful educational television series "The History of Hungary" was also composed by the latter. Every year, they traditionally hold their big concert on 15 March, the first such occasion being in 1996 in the Budapest Sports Hall.

After the loss of the band's frontman László "Cipő" Bódi on 11 March 2013, Zoltán Tóth left the band. His colleagues continued with former permanent contributor Gábor Halász.
