Omen

Omen was formed in 1990 on the initiative of László Nagyfi and József Kalapács, who had left the then most popular Hungarian heavy metal band Pokolgép.

Laci's brother Zoli Nagyfi, who came from Ossian, became the drummer. And the bass player position was filled by András Ács, who joined after the dissolution of the Varga Miklós Band.

The band work first started with guitarist Zsolt Daczi (who is also the namesake of the band), but he could not take the position because of Bikini. The band was finally completed with Tamás Szekeres, with whom the first three albums were recorded.

The lyrics of the new songs were written by Attila Horváth, whose talent was first made famous by Piramis and Korál.

Omen were immediately signed by the then monopoly Hungaroton, and the album Feketében (1991) set the band on the road to success. Released on vinyl at the time, the album sold 26,000 copies. The band embarked on a national tour with the newly formed Akela as guest band.

The next album, "Brutal Tango" (1992), was not long in coming, and the five-piece group went on to further success.

After the hard-hitting "Anarchia" in 1993, Szekeres was replaced by Lajos Sárközi, who had been a student of Nagyfi. He recorded the legendary "Jelek" (1994), which is still regarded as one of the most successful Omen albums.

In the same year, a concert album was recorded in Petőfi Hall.

In 1997 the band worked with another lyricist, Péter Sziámi Müller. "Idegen anyag" was the last album of this formation.

In 2000 the band parted ways with József Kalapács.

In 2003, Omen recorded their new album "Tiszta szívvel" (lyrics: László Katona 'Főnök') with a new line-up, where Zsolt Daczi played guitar and Gábor Vörös played bass in place of Lajos Sárközi.

In 2004 a compilation album was released under the title "Best of Omen".

After a short break due to Zsolt's long and serious illness, two more albums were released. "Hetedik nap" (2006, lyrics by Attila Horváth) and Agymosás (2006, lyrics by László Katona 'Főnök') were recorded with singer Tibor Gubás.

2007 was a mournful year in the history of the band. Zsolt Daczi 'Bende' lost his heroic battle with his illness. He lived 38 years. His death marked the end of an era in the band's history.

In 2012, the new line-up (László Nagyfi - guitar, Zoltán Nagyfi - drums, Gábor Vörös - bass guitar, Zsolt Szijártó - guitar, Árpád Koroknai - vocals) released a new double album entitled "Nomen est omen". The lyrics to the fresh compositions were written by Attila Horváth and Attila Szeberényi. György Derzsi wrote the symphonic orchestration for the songs that have become classics. As a bonus, the album also includes the song "Jó utat freundom" (T. Ángyán, Zs. Molics) in memory of Zsolt Daczi.

In 2012 there was a change of guitarist. The new guitarist was Máté Nagy "Kölyök".

The drifting impetus of the new songs and the rearranged versions of the old ones won the recognition of the profession, the audience and the critics, giving the band a new impetus.

In the spring of 2017, the bassist position changed, with Gábor Vörös being replaced by Joci Mezőfi.

At the end of May 2019, the vocalist position was changed, with Péter Molnár replacing Árpád Koroknai.

In March 2020, Máté Nagy was replaced by Carlos Tóth Kártmen (ex-Crossholder, ex-Akela) on guitar.
