Piramis

The Piramis band is one of the greatest legends in the history of Hungarian rock music, and never before has a Hungarian band caused such mass hysteria as this band.

Piramis was formed in 1975 and soon became the most popular band in the country. Tens of thousands of people went wild in the Buda Youth Park, and the group played hundreds of concerts a year all over the country, on open-air stages, in community centres and youth parks. Their albums sold hundreds of thousands of copies, Pyramid Patrols were formed, poems were written to them, and the musicians could not go out on the street because the traffic was blocked.

Their hits are still among the most popular songs in Hungarian rock, with "Szállj fel magasra", "Becsület", "Ha volna két életem", "Kívánj igazi ünnepet" and other hits becoming classics and the most played songs on the radio.

After the band split up, fans waited twelve years to see their favourites again. In 1992, the band played five sold-out concerts in the Budapest Sports Hall, when the lead singer of Aerosmith, who had played in Hungary, said to the members of Piramis: "You are much bigger stars than us, because we only managed to make one sold-out concert"... The reissued albums sold huge numbers again, but there was no continuation, and Piramis were not heard from again for many years.

The next release was in December 2006, when the band reunited and filled the Arena twice, the DVD of the concert went platinum, as did the audio CD. Contrary to expectations, this time too the extended comeback failed to materialise, with the band not staying together due to personnel problems.

However, three of the former members of Piramis - guitarist János Závodi, keyboardist Péter Gallai and drummer Miklós Köves - felt that the musical heritage could not be lost, the audience still demanded the concerts and wanted to hear the songs live. Therefore, they asked Gábor Vörös, former member of the Ossián band, to play bass, and János Nyemcsók, a passionate Piramis fan and a vocal talent as well as a stage presence, was the best choice for the vocal position.

2009, the year of the return of Pyramis. There have been requests from major festivals, city events, cultural centres and abroad, all of which the band is keen to fulfil. The Piramis has not been to the countryside and the Hungarian regions of the neighbouring countries for thirty years, so the interest is growing day by day, a significant number of performances are expected this year, we would like to celebrate the thirty years of the legendary "big party" and organise a Christmas concert.
