SAÏD CHALABAN

In 2022, a new chapter in Saïd Tichitiben's musical life opened: he continued the journey he started more than two decades ago under a new name, with a new sound and new musicians. In this musical project, ancient Gnawa, Shaâbi and Hassani songs meet Western styles such as dub, funk and psychedelic rock. The blending of ancient traditions and modern aesthetics creates a great opportunity for improvisation and experimentation. Together with a group of outstanding creative musicians, they offer audiences a true world music experience.

Born in the south of Morocco, Saïd is of Berber mother and black African father. He settled in Hungary in 1998 and a year later founded his orchestra, which has produced six albums and given numerous concerts in Hungary, Europe and Morocco. This adventure culminated in a month-long North American tour from New York to Los Angeles, Chicago, Montreal, San Francisco and New Orleans.

The members of the band are Saïd Chalaban (vocals, percussion, oud, guembri), Ádám Mészáros (guitar), András Kálmán (keyboards), András Koroknay (bass), Zsolt Krecsmáry (drums)

19:00

DOKTOR MONOTON & TINK feat. MAGYAR BORI

Doktor Monoton and Tink (pHLat) are the songwriting artists of the Mulató Aztékok trio, which has been enriching the Hungarian hip-hop palette for more than ten years. Besides their band, both of them are active musicians in their solo projects and separately as members of other formations (Flat Earth, Slow Village), as well as producers and DJs. The duo are preparing a truly special one-off show and will be joined by a special guest they have never worked with before. Their performance is an adventure into the folk universe, with deep and loose lyrics set to music with unique motifs derived from urban folk art.

Joining them on this evening is Bori Magyar, a popular singer on the jazz and world music scene who has been on stage for 20 years and whose voice, alongside her own sextet, many will recognise from Besh o droM and Makám.

The boys will be performing their own songs, selected from their solo albums and rarely or never heard live, made even more special by Bori's vocals and performing presence.

ROMANO DROM feat. Saïd Tichiti & ANIMA DJs

This year Romano Drom, one of the best known representatives of contemporary gypsy culture in Hungary, celebrates 25 years of existence. Since its foundation in 1999, the band has toured the world from Cairo to New York, from South Korea to London, from Beijing to Oslo. They have toured the Middle East and the Far East, have had several successful overseas concert series and have played in almost every country in Europe. Their unique musical world has made them a band that embraces gypsy culture but plays world music. Their aim is to bring their music, with its special essence, to those who may not be familiar with Oláh Gypsy music, dances and culture. This idea is fulfilled in a traceable way in their albums, blending authentic Ola Gipsy melodies with familiar features from other musical cultures.

To celebrate their 25th anniversary, Romano Drom will present a unique flavour of music with the addition of guest artists. During the evening, the Moroccan-born Saïd Tichiti will join the band, and in the second half of the concert, a unique project, which can only be seen and heard here, will be created by a group of old friends and fellow musicians. The Romano Drom crew will sing and play to the rhythm and electronics of the Anima Sound System producers.

Admission to the event is free.

Location

Town hall park

Few things symbolise the identity of a municipality better than its town hall. It's no coincidence that almost every era has seen the redevelopment of Budapest's City Hall, with architects dreaming up new wings, a tower block that would transform the cityscape, or even a multi-storey underground car park - all in the spirit of the times.
