Schedule
"The exhibition at Ladó Gallery features a selection of works from the constructive-concrete artist's production over the last decade. Included are seemingly precarious yet stable abstract spatial constructions; wooden reliefs assembled from found materials, boards, and pieces of picture frames; as well as colorful, curved, and amorphous playful blocks/images emerging from organic-looking parts. We present new pieces, 'drawing-reliefs', based on graph paper. Balványos breaks this strict order, the array of tiny squares, and animates the formal world of 'irregular' reliefs with echoing elements, overlays, and motifs within the motif. You can see graphite drawings, as well as graphite reliefs made using pencil inserts, i.e., graphite and plaster: strands protruding from plaster, barely three-dimensional, graphite threads frozen into ice, the delicate and fragile graphite ball actually juxtaposed with the 'quasi-space' opposed to the 'oversized' real space; a delicate forest of graphite needles at the boundary between plane and space."
