In the Nordic countries, saunas are believed to be more than just relaxation: they are a way of facing oneself. Director Anna Hints' stunning cinematography reveals the most intimate moments of traditional Estonian sauna bathing through the eyes of a close-knit community of women. Gathered in a sweatbox in the forest, the women open up about their most hidden secrets, desires and traumatic memories, while the boundaries of body and soul are blurred before our eyes.
The hypnotic documentary premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2023, where it won the Best Director Award in the World Cinema section.
