Schedule

On this album, Sarah Vaughan and the Oscar Peterson Quartet show us how to actually sing and play these songs. The only surprising thing about this recording is that it was made in 1978, and not before. However, ever since Body and Soul, You're Blasé or Teach Me Tonight were released, they have become instantly textbook. In addition to his huge three-octave vocal range, Vaughan's interpretations are also captivating because he can also display other timbres and characters appropriate to his evergreen genre, such as when he duets with drummer Louis Bellson on When you Lover Has Gone. The drummer and Ray Brown are immediately able to give a full overture worthy opening, and Peterson's chords paint the background in richly coloured detail. Guitarist Joe Pass, a favourite of the singers, provides contrast to Vaughan's vocal solo with arpeggios and runs. Vaughan, who was born a hundred years ago this year, has repeatedly said that his singing was modelled mostly on Parker, Gillespie and the others, positioning his voice as an instrument. But he also paid attention to the lyrics, with every gesture and every character in place: the eroticism of Teach Me..., the gloss of Misty's chromatic run, or the serenity of Easy Living's big vocal lines. Kriszta Pocsai, who stands out from the Hungarian field, will be a worthy protagonist of this concert thanks to her vocal texture, expressiveness and effortless virtuosity.

Location

Thália Theatre

In the Thália Theatre, the focus is on light-hearted entertainment, in the spirit of the "Pest Broadway" of Nagymező Street. The Thália Winter Garden, inaugurated in 2019, is a little more serious, while the Arizona Studio is home to independent productions. In 2017, the capital reaffirmed its confidence in the management, with Gábor Kálomista applying for the post of managing director and Géza Bereményi as an advisor.
