Schedule
In 1348, during a pandemic, ten young people flee to the countryside to escape the plague. They lock themselves in, wait and tell stories to pass the time. This is the basic setting of Boccaccio's Decameron. His novellas entertain, move and delight, while giving an accurate impression of the times in which they were written.
In the year 2023, in the shadow of a pandemic, a war and a crisis, we all know this state of affairs. The agonising waiting, the constant uncertainty, the no-man's land between life and death. So we thought it was time to create the Decameron of the 21st century. Not just to wait, but to tell.
Ten stories by ten contemporary Hungarian writers - Péter Fábián, Dóra Gimesi, János Háy, Sándor Jászberényi, Sári O. Horváth, Lajos Parti Nagy, Csaba Székely, Rémusz Szikszai, István Tasnádi and Péter Závada - will be brought to life on the Budapest Puppet Theatre's Main Stage. Entertaining and poignant, horrifying and delightful, these stories may leave a mark on the times in which they were born. Stories worth retelling. If there are any left to tell.

We are the only established theatre in Budapest that specialized in the genre of puppetry.
