St Petersburg is one of the world's most vibrant and diverse opera and ballet capitals. It is not enough to mention the famous opera house, which now once again bears its original tsarist name, the Mariinsky, and has replaced the local communist leader, Kirov. But the beautiful historic house, opened in 1860, has been joined by a modern concert hall and another opera house, the Mariinsky, which reminds us of New York's Lincoln Center. At the same time, there are independent ballet theatres, some with their own schools in a 21st century building - such as the company, theatre and school of Boris Eifman, a choreographer in our repertoire. And in the autumn of 2019, we also experienced in a guest performance in St Petersburg (Mozart's The Goose of Cairo) that there is also chamber opera, with a reduced orchestra but full-blooded singing. For two evenings, the Russian company is now presenting its works in Budapest, including two French operas in their original language. In their productions, visuals play a key role - despite the relatively small size of the stage in the mother theatre - with the use of LED screens, graphics and animation, but they also bring the familiar high quality Russian culture of singing.

EIFFEL ART STUDIOS
The largest indoor complex in Hungarian railway history, a system of vast covered spaces unique in Europe, the Northern Railway Maintenance and Engineering Works was built between 1884 and 1886. After years of alterations and renovations, starting from 2020 it is now home to the Hungarian State Opera’s new logistics and art centre.
