Schedule

The Uruguayan star singer first appeared on the opera stage in her hometown of Montevideo at the age of 22, in a role as Andrea Chénier. The young bass-baritone had won first prizes in several singing competitions, but when he was awarded the first prize in the 1998 Operalia competition under the name of Plácido Domingo, he was not short of international requests. Since then, Erwin Schrott's name has become indelible in today's opera world, and his performances have become a celebration in almost all the world's major theatres and concert halls. The backbone of his repertoire consists mainly of romantic music and the great baritone roles in Mozart's works. With his interpretations of Don Giovanni, Figaro and Leporello, he has become a veritable benchmark for Mozart interpretations. He has been a regular guest on the stages of the Hungarian State Opera House for a decade now, in his most iconic roles. One of his most memorable performances in Budapest was the Figaro series in 2020, in which he played both (bass) baritones in the main roles of the work on two occasions, but also his interpretation of Mephistopheles in the renovated Ybl Palace. In addition to opera, the charming South American artist is a dedicated interpreter of Latin American music, including tango, and his fans were able to get to know this side of him at his 2018 concert on Margaret Island. After a series of grandiose opera productions, he returns to OPERA for the third season of "Stares with Piano" to showcase his multifaceted talents.
