Aya, an Ivory Coast woman in her early thirties, upsets those around her when she says no to her fiancé at his wedding. She starts a new life in China, finding work in a tea shop. Her boss, 45-year-old Caj, is fascinated by Aya's passion for tea. She becomes his apprentice, and as they learn about ancient ceremonies and the art of tea, their relationship blossoms into a tender love affair. The scent of tea is a love story that crosses continents and cultures, hovering on the border between fantasy and reality.
