A story of wonder and love featuring Mitsuha and Taki. Mitsuha is a high school girl who lives with her sister and grandmother in a tiny town deep in the mountains. Mitsuha is the daughter of the local mayor, who is very strict, especially as elections are coming up, and wants her daughter to behave in an exemplary manner. Squeezed by tradition, Mitsuha dreams of a life in the big city. In the centre of Tokyo lives Taki, a high school boy who spends most of his time with friends or waiting tables at an Italian restaurant, but his real passions are architecture and fine arts. One day Mitsuha dreams that she is a boy in downtown Tokyo, and Taki also has a very vivid dream that she is a country girl far away in the mountains.
