In the not too distant future, England is suffering under a dictatorship. Propaganda is spouted on TV, and the secret police's thugs are terrorising everyone. Evey, a young girl, is caught in the street one night, freed from the jaws of death by a mysterious figure, V. The man wears the mask of Guy Fawkes, a rebel executed four hundred years ago. Fawkes and his comrades wanted to blow up parliament to free the country from tyranny. But the assassination failed, and the conspirators were executed by hanging. Little by little, Evey learns of V's past, which fuels his desire for revenge. And as he travels the prisons of the dictatorship himself, he discovers that V is up to the same thing Fawkes was up to.
