[ESCAPE] A Donkihóte-projekt
A runaway theatrical fantasy about our wildly romantic normality. Budapest, 2024.
How can we account for the altruism of the spider-man in the Blaha underpass or the moral code of a samurai? In Pest county, the habits of Völgyzugoly? Are you familiar with the absurdity of the situation? No coincidence. We are inspired by one of the most fascinating lonely heroes in world literature, a holy phantasm facing windmills and real sin, a grotesque champion of truth. How does our society react to a self-proclaimed regiment of hussars weighing barely seventy kilos? What would Kinizsi do?

Schedule
The story, written for the Örkény Theatre company, collides the state of mind, anxieties and fears of contemporary man with the purity of naive, childlike ancestral stories, to capture something of the purpose and absurdity of existence.

Örkény István Theatre
The Örkény István Theatre is an independent repertory theatre and one of the most important theatres in the country. Örkény is primarily a prose drama theatre, but our theatre is open to a wide variety of genres. Our repertoire has included more than a hundred works, from antiquity to contemporary works. Regardless of genre, we see the meaning of our work in our choice of high literature, in our careful rehearsals, in our openness to public issues, in our love of humour, grotesque and the many shades of irony. Our ten-year-old theatre education programme was one of the first in Hungary to open up a new channel for active, community-building engagement with audiences.
