Dahomey - Who are we? | Feldmár Filmclub | PREMIER BEFORE
On Friday 24 January 2025, at 20.15, we will meet in person at the Bem cinema to continue the 2024/2025 season. For the sixth year running, we will meet you with unbroken enthusiasm and chat after the film. We look forward to seeing you again this season, with lots of new films and real conversations!

Schedule
After the film, the Institute will be joined by Anita Bezzeg, independent journalist Szabolcs Dull, bibliotherapist Annamari Huszár, actress Mari Kőszegi and Norbert Sas.
This was our motto at the beginning:
"We're starting a pretty cool film club", where we can get together and choose from the Mozinet selection without anyone having to be an expert. Just let yourself be influenced...then sit down and share your impressions, thoughts and feelings...listen to others....inspire, recharge. Will we have anything to do with these works? Will they be lovable or repulsive? Or will they leave us clueless and dull?" Alexa Novák
The post-screening discussion will be joined by Feldmár Institute staff and invited guests. None of us are experts, film gurus or film critics. We have come together as interlocutors around a film based on our personal connection, our involvement and our fascination with the subject.
If you're drawn to a film after reading a brief synopsis, if you're touched by the subject, or if you like to talk, or maybe neither of those things at the moment, but are curious to see what comes out of it, we'd love to hear from you. You don't have to be a film aesthete, if you can talk to us about yourself, about your experiences, that will be enough. We will do exactly the same.

Dahomey - Who are we?
Berlin International Film Festival 2024
Golden Bear Award
In 1892, hundreds of artefacts from the West African kingdom of Dahomey were looted and taken away by French colonial troops. In 2021, 26 of these royal artefacts were returned to the Republic of Benin, where Dahomey once stood. The return of the artefacts was a key moment in the history of the former colonial countries. But how are the artworks being received by the people of Benin? A heated debate is raging among students at Abomey-Calavi University about what it means for them today to confront their ancestors' heritage. Senegalese-French director Mati Diop's film won the Golden Bear at this year's Berlinale.

Bem Cinema
In January 2016, the 108-year-old Bem Cinema will reopen its doors to the public, in a new way never seen before in Hungary: as a cinema of cult and classic films (no harm!), or as the educated French say (if you know your English): as a "repertory cinema".
