NORMA - co-exhibition of Eszter Palik and blanche the vidiot
NORMA - whom and what do we mean when we think and talk about norms, standards, normality? Does this term have an innocent, non-normative, non-regulatory meaning at all? What is the role of norm(s) in the process of creation, in the arrangement and reception of artworks? Singular or plural, masculine, or feminine? No to roles, yes to negation - how do we relate to norms if we want to both conform to them and break out of them? The works in the exhibition – objects, sculptures, photographs, videos arranged in an installative space – can be interpreted in themselves and in response to each other regarding these questions. The roles – both social and individual, gendered, and genderless, norm-followers and rule-breakers alike – help us to orient and confuse, to remain calm and rebel, to understand and tolerate, as well as to discriminate and exclude.

Schedule
The works are oriented around the mapping and questioning of these dichotomies, approaching the world of norms from two different yet closely connected creative attitudes and approaches. Stylized and overwritten, altered images, sounds and materials are as much an attempt to open these questions as the everyday objects, the most ordinary ready-mades and objet truouvé artworks. A spade, a hoe, a wooden slipper – artistic and common approaches, vulgarity and playful seriousness are all on display in NORMA.
Opening date: 4 February at 19:00.
Opening of the exhibition by Gerda Széplaky, aesthete
Venue: Art9 Gallery, Budapest 1092 Ráday utca 47, large hall
