In the afternoons, little pupils play in the Pál Street playground. They hear that a rival group, led by Feri Áts, is planning an attack to take over the Pál Street ground. The boys prepare for the enemy attack. They choose Boka as their leader, the others are also given ranks, only the skinny, blond Ernő Nemecsek remains a private...

Zoltán Fábri was given the opportunity to direct The Boys of Paul Street with English child actors after a banned script. The eternal story of heroism and childish cruelty was transformed by Fábri into a novelistic, naked film. The film, thanks in part to the great performance of Anthony Kemp, was nominated for an Academy Award in 1969.
