BEFORE PREMIER - What none of us would see alone

András Feldmár has been a psychotherapist for 54 years and a patient for 54 years.

"All psychotherapists are patients, but not all patients are psychotherapists. I have been a psychotherapist for 54 years because I am the craziest. I need human company and I don't know how to do anything else. I am the patient. I am the super patient. Only a crazy person would spend all day listening to other people."

The difference between therapist and patient, he says, is that the therapist spends more time in therapy than his patients. There is nothing else.

"There is no them, there is no us - we don't need a cure, we need mercy for all of us. Anyone who doesn't understand that is presumed to be doing harm."

The viewer is given an insight into some of the stages of Feldmar's remarkable career, including how his relationship with R.D. Laing, among others, shaped him and how he became a radical psychotherapist who inspired many.
