Allan Karlsson's 100th birthday is coming up, so a birthday party is organised for him at the retirement home. Despite his age, the sharp-witted man is unimpressed, and instead of celebrating, he climbs out of his bedroom window. Shortly after his escape, he finds himself in possession of a briefcase full of money, making him a target for drug dealers and the police.
But Allan's adventures did not begin when he was a hundred years old. As he flees, he recalls the most exciting moments of his life that shaped the history of the 20th century.
