In the 17th century, the Vanitas readings drew attention to the brevity and transience of human life and the futility of worldly things. The group exhibition Vanitas Readings, which occupies three rooms, offers a selection of contemporary art interpretations of this ancient art historical theme. Paintings, prints, sculptures, video works and installations reflect on a 'reading' of the vanitas theme. The exhibition is grouped around eight themes, each of which follows a traditional visual theme, such as the dance of death, vanitas still life, homo bulla (bubble-blowing), or the passage of time, ages, mourning, ruins. At the same time, a separate section will attempt to show the possibilities beyond the passing of time.
