János Arany: Toldi - Forte Társulat

Even in his own time, János Arany intended Toldy to be a fascinating read for generations. As the work is performed on stage from the first word to the last, the adventures, actions and moods of the work come to life. The millstone, the adventure with the wolf, the chase, the streets of Pest, the bull, the Czech soldier, the homelessness of the peasant child who wanders into the big city, the pain of the mother who loses her children, the treachery of George Toldi, the noble figure of the Hungarian king - all this is evoked in words and in movement, in a complex representation of the present day.

In this innovative performance, the entire work of Arany is performed in the original language, while movement, music, dance and text become an integral part of the piece. The internationally acclaimed theatre company presents the classic piece accompanied by music by Liszt Ferenc Prize-winning Artist of Distinction Mihály Dresch. An excerpt of the performance will be sung by company member Norbert Nagy.

Toldi, which was nominated for the Lábán Prize in 2012, is already an incredible success in Budapest, even after its 150th performance, especially with school audiences at its permanent venue, the Thália Theatre. The production, which has been in repertoire for almost six years, has lost nothing of its popularity, and over the years new generations have grown up, who have the opportunity to enjoy this must-read play in a theatrical setting.
