Winter Wonderland

Portraits, still lifes, scenes from everyday life—Szami’s photographic series is a colorful, vivid sociography: the injection-molded plastic reality of ordinary people: Santa gazing at a sex shop, a Virgin Mary fridge magnet for 1,100 forints, a dilapidated basketball hoop, and a pile of discarded pine trees—once serving their purpose as Christmas trees but now rendered obsolete—all carry Szami’s unsettling message: that everything passes, in the blink of an eye.
