Lola Kovács: ZERO
Kovács Lola: Zero
Opening by: Bihari Ágnes, art writer and photographer, and Kovács Lola, visual artist
In recent years, she has painted slightly softened, mystical, colorful, mineral-like forms. Attractive, mysterious, sensual, unpolished, and polished gemstones.
There was also a period in her career when an unusually magnified detail filled the entire picture plane—such as a human eye. These works are well-known as well; in fact, until mid-March, a pair of Kovács Lola’s eyes is looking down from the walls of the Ludwig Museum’s representative group exhibition.
Throughout her artistic journey, she has occasionally worked in other media besides painting: installation, embroidery, photography, drawing… Like most truly great artists, she is constantly searching—and, it seems, she always finds something. In each new phase, she does not only exhibit her fully matured works but dares to show the very beginning of the journey as well.
Just like now.
So, what will we see?
Zero. Nothing. The starting point. Or the endpoint.
Come and see for yourself!
Exhibition dates: March 19 – April 17, 2025
Open during gallery hours.

„Null point, zero is nothing else but mystical vision, the visible world being born again and
again, the ticking of the present more or less conveyed by the movement of the eyelids brushing the
mirror of the soul, each second, each blink, opening and closing, allowing the fully charged vision to
force oblivion to take a bigger leap, just like the windscreen wipers of a car sweeping faster and
faster, making the downpour disappear so swiftly that the eye, brushed by the eyelashes, has no
time to capture the rain.”
Bohumil Hrabal – Table missing a leg ( excerpt ) translation from Hungarian edition by Lola Kovács
