Secluded from the world, a small island off the coast of Massachusetts is home to some of the most violent and insane criminals in the United States. When a woman convicted of murder in the 1950s inexplicably escapes from the maximum security facility, the warden, Dr. Cawley, is forced to seek outside help. Two marshals, Teddy Daniels and Chuck Aule, travel to the island to find out what happened and track down the escapee. Daniels has to deal not only with a psychiatrist who is interfering with his work, but also with his own demons...
