Budapest Egalitarian Eco-City celebrates an important anniversary this year, April 2073. Fifty years ago, the city was shocked by the Great Fate-Turning Drone Event. In the spring of 2023, thanks to two dozen dedicated art lovers, our lives will be changed forever.
Fifty years ago, a performance at the Crystal Theatre on Margaret Island, now a pilgrimage site, took an unexpected turn: a drone went rogue.
What happened then has since been referred to in many different ways: the Machine's rebellion, a cathartic industrial accident, a poetic catastrophe.
From the ruins a movement was launched, joined within moments by tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of people. The drone showed the way. And the miracle happened. Change had begun.
The rest is history. The Drone Followers dared to dream big, their vision - to create a new, livable city for us - is now our present: living our lives in peaceful communities full of beauty, purpose and meaning, in healthy harmony with nature.
To mark the anniversary, the Municipality of the Egalitarian Eco-City of Budapest invites you to a special commemorative drone ritual, during which we will recall the Great Event itself, the path that led to it, and all that we owe to it.
The drone ritual will take place on the site of the event 50 years ago, the Crystal Stage, now a museum.

Kristály Cultural & Conference Venue
Budapest city’s newest cultural, gastro and community space was born in the heart of the Margaret-island which is located in the completely renovated building of the former mineral water bottler factory. It is a scene for exciting art cult productions (eg. theatre, dance, concert, children activities) for sports fans and people seeking health-conscious life. Kristály is an innovative, cool, informal place where you can build a community and which “connects and recreates people”.
