Bence Knyihár aims at preserving painting as a medium from several angles, exploring the relationship between the work and its author, in addition to examining the material components of the painting. His latest minimalist paintings are reduced to essential elements - colours, brushstrokes, canvas - depicting rhythmic lines and perforations with performative gestures.
Schedule
The materiality of his works, born in search of the roots of painting, is both a symbol and a metaphor for physical substance and carefully controlled gesture. An event or occurrence within which the artist, beyond the position of the individual, reveals himself in the fateful meeting of the painting strips, precipitated and summarized on the surface of the canvas. The work, free of the burden of stories and theories, thus forces the artist and the viewer alike to become aware of the inner presence.
