The Blue Pelican is the first feature-length animated film that recalls the recent history of Hungary with acerbic humour and documentary style.

The animated film is made in the style of American indie films with artistic sophistication. The frenzy of freedom of the late eighties and early nineties, the mood of expectation of the period of regime change, is reflected in László Csáki's animation with its acerbic humour, strong and distinctive imagery.

The director has spent years interviewing people whose lives were transformed by the fateful experience of travelling internationally on forged train tickets written in blue Pelikan indigo.

The film is a real nostalgia trip, with music from the era such as "Let's go banzai!" by Bonanza Banzai, "Lidocain" by Hypercarma or "The Flesh Chewing Bridge Beater" by Kispal and Borz.

Location

Bem Cinema

In January 2016, the 108-year-old Bem Cinema will reopen its doors to the public, in a new way never seen before in Hungary: as a cinema of cult and classic films (no harm!), or as the educated French say (if you know your English): as a "repertory cinema".
