Jehan Paumero: My House and My Home - book launch

2025-05-21T16:00:00.000Z

Jehan Paumero is a well-known and much-loved figure in Pécs. For twenty years, he has been watching, measuring and sometimes smilingly commenting on what we may no longer even notice. But we have long since stopped looking at him as a stranger - he is now a true Pécsite. Now, in his book, My Country and My Home, he tells his story of what he thinks about Pécs, Hungary, our everyday lives, our gestures and our habits - as an outsider, from the inside.

Schedule

Reading Jehan's book, as a Pécsian, we immediately recognise the streets, the places, the faces - and we are also caught up in a sweet nostalgia as the city's 2000s come alive. But Jehan goes deeper than that: behind the glasses of the kindly smiling French guy, there is the real man - the mid-life crisis, the burnout, the sense of being at home, and the realisation that our time is no longer infinite.

This event is not just a book launch, but a cultural mirror play where humour, insight and human intimacy will be intertwined. We will learn how an outsider becomes a homecomer.

László Bérczes talks to Jehan Paumero and Ferenc Köles reads extracts from the book.
