Kipakolás 8 - Folk Music Department

An evening of authentic sound, where three graduates of the Folk Music Department of the Liszt Ferenc University of Music and Performing Arts will perform, accompanied by a large number of accompanying musicians.

Collective experiences and personal stories from the Carpathian Basin and beyond unfold through the personalities of three young, sensitive and dedicated performers.

The concert by KRISZTINA BAUER (vocals) presents the folk music of five different regions. She performs authentic songs from Moldavia, the typical raven songs of the Danube region, Transylvanian Gypsy songs from Sászcsávás, and Nyárádmenti and Gyergyó, collected by Béla Bartók. The concert will also feature folk instruments that are less often heard, such as the long flute, the kaval and the cimbalom.

At the concert of BORBÁLA TAKÁCS (violin) we will get a taste of the most archaic folk music of the Carpathian Basin. From Budatelke, a dance of the Romanian nationality, from Gyimes and Máramaros, melodies related to wedding customs, from Somogy, a pakulár and a ballad of the Révész, from Csallóköz, the violin and bagpipe instrument pair will be heard.

RADIS AFRODITÉ (vocals) brings together Hungarian and Greek folk music through different versions of the ballad "The Woman Built into the Wall". This story, which lives on in the oral tradition of almost all the peoples of the Balkans, has become our common heritage and has carried for centuries the deepest questions of female destiny, sacrifice and human faith. The songs are not only stories, but also memories of destinies, cultures and communities.

Afrodité's personal and musical background creates a special bridge between past and present, language and melody, Hungarian and Greek.

The name "Unpacking" is borrowed from the end-of-year art show at the University of Fine Arts, where students "unpack" their work for the year in an exhibition. Here, students, teachers and visitors can see what each person has done, what they have achieved and what they have created during the year. We would like to establish a similar tradition with the participation of various music schools, in cooperation with the Hungarian House of Music. A regular opportunity for students to present themselves, where they can listen to each other and show each other and the audience in concert what they have been working on and what they have achieved at the end of a given period - practically once a quarter.  As well as introducing the schools, the aim is to bring students from different schools together and inspire them to work together.

The closing concert of the first season of the series will take place at the Hungarian House of Music on 29 June 2025 with all the participating sections!

For the students of the schools concerned the entrance is free of charge, for the others the entrance is 2500 HUF with advance ticket, and 3000 HUF on the spot, which is used to support our performers and the series!
