The rabbits ear

2025-06-06T17:00:00.000Z

Who doesn't know the story of the cricket and the ant? The ant worked like a beast all year round, and by the time winter came he had used up all his reserves. So he knocked on the door of the cricket to borrow it... or was it?

Aesopus, the world's first storyteller, finally visits Hungary and tells us what he wants! Free, you know. A freed slave. Hunched over, yet with a straight spine. Two legs, yet he stumbles. If he's a cunning fox, if he's not, he's a born sheep Either way, he's a big dog. A swallow who isn't. That's what we're for. If we sharpen our ears and don't shy from its shadow like a cowardly rabbit, we may learn our lesson. Or lack of it, and by the end of the evening we may be a little freer slaves.

Schedule

An antique stand-up animalistic take on human frailty. A didactic dance song in evocative quotation marks. Standing questioning, and standing questioning asserting. Jewellery with another's pen in two acts!

The company of the Örkény Theatre undertakes nothing less than a musical revue to rethink the Aesop's fables, which have lost nothing of their validity in three thousand years.

Location

Örkény István Theatre

The Örkény István Theatre is an independent repertory theatre and one of the most important theatres in the country. Örkény is primarily a prose drama theatre, but our theatre is open to a wide variety of genres. Our repertoire has included more than a hundred works, from antiquity to contemporary works. Regardless of genre, we see the meaning of our work in our choice of high literature, in our careful rehearsals, in our openness to public issues, in our love of humour, grotesque and the many shades of irony. Our ten-year-old theatre education programme was one of the first in Hungary to open up a new channel for active, community-building engagement with audiences.
