diary. began in 2019 as a photographic diary updated on a daily basis. The spontaneous, sequential uploading of images to Instagram led to the realization that something was beginning to take shape and arrange itself into a coherent whole.

The location tag on Instagram (Somewhere on Earth) suggests that the objects, places, situations, portraits, and phenomena depicted in the series could be found anywhere in the world. The use of snapshot-style lighting is intended to lift everyday events out of their environment, thereby rewriting them with new layers of meaning.

The images created day by day and published in real time started to outline a series in which new sequences kept revealing themselves. The realization that these seemingly unrelated images work together coherently is not merely a formal motif: in different selections, they reflect on each other in entirely diverse ways, depending on the organizing principle applied.

The diary. photo series began as a classic documentary project, but in the process evolved into a photo essay. The body of work is not meant to provide answers – rather, it raises questions and sheds new interpretative light on things already familiar and easily understood.

After the opening, the DJ set will be provided by Tatlin.
