The third edition of LOKART focuses on the human body – with its sensual, symbolic, social, and ecological dimensions. The theme of this year's biennial is "MY BODY, MY CASTLE," and it sets out to explore the multifaceted meanings and representations of the body through different generations of contemporary Hungarian visual art.

While the depiction of the human body is as old as visual culture itself, current social and cultural changes—the loosening of community ties, systemic loss of trust, digitalization, and new forms of self-representation—make questions related to the body particularly relevant. Today, the body has become one of the last authentic experiential surfaces through which individuals attempt to relate to reality.

The biennial places this direct bodily experience in an artistic context: it reflects on the relationship between the body and time, the ecological embeddedness of the body, and the symbolic and mythical dimensions of the body as a carrier of identity. The exhibited works vividly demonstrate how narratives related to the body are formed and how the body becomes the primary tool of artistic expression and perception.

Schedule

A key objective of LOKART 3.0 is to present generations of Hungarian contemporary visual artists on a common platform, showcasing the historical and conceptual contexts of body representation. Special attention is given to those pioneering artists who began to thematize the emancipation of the female body and bodily experience decades ago.
