The Esterházy Art Award, established in 2009, aims to support young, talented Hungarian artists and promote international dialogue.

The competition is open to paintings and techniques related to painting, as well as spatial installations using these techniques. The prize, worth €5,000 each, is awarded every two years by an independent international jury to a minimum of two and a maximum of three Hungarian artists under the age of 45. An exhibition of the shortlisted works will once again be held at the Ludwig Museum – Museum of Contemporary Art.

The Ludwig Museum - Museum of Contemporary Art, located in Müpa, is the first museum in Hungary to exclusively collect contemporary art. In addition to a permanent exhibition of the collection donated by the Ludwigs and a number of temporary exhibitions, the museum aims to raise awareness of the works and their creators through special publications and a variety of art education and art education programmes.
