Polska Jazz | Piotr Schmidt Quintet – Komeda Unknown 1967 (PL)

Pianist and film composer Krzysztof Komeda was one of the pioneers of modern Polish jazz, whose work has been reflected upon by many in many ways, yet his oeuvre remains an inexhaustible source of inspiration. Following the success of the album Tribute to Tomasz Stańko (SJRecords, 2018), jazz trumpeter Piotr Schmidt was approached by Krzysztof Balkiewicz, president of the foundation entrusted with preserving Komeda's legacy, with six newly discovered, previously unreleased compositions by the pianist. These pieces were supposed to appear on the album Moja słodka europejska ojczyzna, but ultimately did not make it onto the record and sank into the depths of the archives. They were saved from oblivion by Schmidt's arrangements, which were released in 2022 on the album Komeda Unknown 1967 and have been performed live throughout Europe ever since.
