Schedule

István Örkény and Péter Esterházy did not know each other, but there is no question that they are related. What kind of connection is that?

"When I was writing Fancsiko and Pinta, it was in my ears all the time," Esterházy says of his first volume. Elsewhere, he writes of Örkény: 'It cannot be updated, but it is always topical'.

Despite their generational distance and stylistic differences, the worlds of the two writers are very well suited to dialogue. It is as if they were two characters from the same play. Perhaps it is the setting: Hungary.

Pál Mácsai, Gábor Máté, and Miklós Lukács evoke the relationship between the two writers' thinking in this unique performance, and just as they condense history and time in a musical play, they interweave the texts with Bartók, jazz, folk song motifs and free musical improvisation.

Location

Katona József Theatre

For more than 40 years, Budapest's best alternative theatre has been delivering excellent plays every season, admittedly aimed at the city's young people.
