As Europeans, preparing authentic Far Eastern dishes often seems like an insurmountable task, as even finding the right ingredients can be difficult. Often, only simplified versions of this extremely rich gastronomic heritage reach us.
In fact, however, it is necessary to delve deeply into learning about and seeking out special flavors and ingredients so that when we taste the finished dish, we don't feel European for a moment. Perhaps we will remember the taste of the soup we ate on last year's family vacation in Thailand. If we can get the flavors to be even slightly similar, that would be a huge success!
At Manyi, we are trying to create something like this on Sunday, November 23. Come if you are hungry, or even if you are not, if you don't feel like cooking but are in the mood for a nice community brunch.
The host of the evening is Beki Hertelendi, a pillar of Manyi's kitchen, who is also a Japanese studies student and a devoted fan of Far Eastern cultures. We hope this enthusiasm will rub off on you too!
