Schedule

The Kossuth Prize-winning founding member of the Vujicsics Ensemble, Mihály Borbély, now 70, has always worked to demonstrate how sound flows from its source to its delta. Similar inspirational forces drive all his projects, from Borbély Műhely, Quartet B, and the Balkan Jazz Project to the Borbély–Dresch Quartet, the Polygon Trio, and his duo with Károly Binder. In Borbély’s musical language, jazz, the authentic folk music of the Carpathian Basin, and contemporary classical elements spring forth to create a vast musical vocabulary. His professional and spiritual bonds with Dániel Szabó and András Dés have only grown stronger over the years, which is why he invited them to this joint celebration. The presence of Larry Grenadier, whose playing on double bass is perhaps best known as part of Brad Mehldau’s trio, will make this red-letter day even more exalted and memorable.
