My name is Martin Bärlein, and I am a photographer and cinematographer. In my everyday work, I mainly use digital cameras, but film photography plays an equally important role in my life. I am particularly fond of the world of 35 mm film and instant photography, formats such as Polaroid and Instax Wide.

The Beneath the Light exhibition showcases my relationship with the Instax Wide camera. I want to show the many different situations and ways in which this camera can be used, both for documenting everyday moments and when traveling.
The exhibition mainly features images taken between 2023 and 2024. Most of the material was taken in Greece, Belgium, and Spain, but there is also a series from Budapest, taken at the end of 2024 on the days
when Normafa was covered in snow. As I live in Budapest, the everyday sights of the city have a strong influence on me, which is why the selection also includes a number of pictures taken at home, documenting my surroundings.
My first photozine, which summarizes the period 2023–2024 with Instax Wide photos taken in the above-mentioned countries, will also be available at the exhibition.
The project was supported by Instax Hungary, who provided the Instax Wide films for the trips. I am very grateful to them, as without them I would not have been able to create such a large and diverse collection of material in one year.
