The Turin Horse

2026-01-10T19:00:00.000Z

The title refers to the horse that Friedrich Nietzsche encountered on January 3, 1889, as he stepped out of his apartment in Turin. The horse, harnessed to a cart, had refused to move, and the coachman began beating it with a whip. The philosopher approached the animal and, breaking into uncontrollable sobs, embraced it. After his servant took him home and put him to bed, Nietzsche spent the remaining ten years of his life in silence and mental decline.
