Ferenc Réder/ Simon Regős: SLOWNESS

The Manyi Gallery, Apartment Section, and Concert Hall will host Simon Regős's lecture on February 1.

Colloquium III in memory of Milan Kundera

Why has the joy of slowness disappeared? What can people who long for true pleasure and physical encounters do in a society that is fragmented to the extreme and lives under the spell of speed? This is the question that a diverse group of people gathered in a French castle seek to answer: entomologists, television personalities, a politician, a typist, Madame de T. from the 18th century, and her adoring knight.

Milan Kundera's novel of the same title, Slowness, recounts the story of a single adventurous night and its antecedents, with three love stories depicting the different stages and tempos of sensuality. Our performance attempts to portray accelerating slowness. The characters collide and scatter, humiliate, excite, and seduce each other in the ecstasy of speed, while compulsively sharing with us their thoughts on Europeanism, the distorting gaze of the public, Epicurus' philosophy, and above all, sloppy pleasure.
