Two unsettling men arrive for duty on a lighthouse perched on a small cliff jutting into the sea: an experienced old keeper (Willem Dafoe) and his new assistant (Robert Pattinson), a former lumberjack. Their desires, fears, the haunting environment, and the crushing isolation increasingly affect their minds, ultimately determining the nature of their relationship in a cathartic and inevitable way.
