More:
Zsófia Sivák’s photographic approach is characterized by subjective documentary and empathy, through which she reinterprets the reality of rural Hungary and marginalized communities. Her creative method is based on building relationships and direct curiosity: she does not work as an outsider observer, but as an authentic insider of the given environment, avoiding the sensationalist dramatization often typical of social photography.
She knows well the world of pubs and village festivals that appear in her images, as she herself grew up in a small village in Eastern Hungary in the 2000s. Her visual language combines a DIY aesthetic, theatrical flash usage, and a sensitivity to grotesque details with an emotional way of seeing. Her images do not follow a linear narrative but function as fairy-tale-like scenes rooted in reality, encouraging more layered thinking about social stereotypes by highlighting everyday and sometimes seemingly exotic moments.
At Dugattyús, alongside her earlier series made in Eastern Hungary, the newest pieces from her upcoming Balaton works will also be on view.
