Gréta Garami's opening curatorial tour of Tihamér Gyarmathy's exhibition Cosmos in the Studio
2026-03-21T14:00:00.000Z
The exhibition pays tribute to Tihamér Gyarmathy, one of the most important figures in Hungarian abstract painting. The exhibition guides visitors through the painter's early, figurative roots to his mature micro- and macrocosmic world. The focus is on Gyarmathy's diverse sources of inspiration: the circle of abstract artists, Ernő Kállai's bioromanticism and the hidden forms of the microcosm, photogram experiments inspired by László Moholy-Nagy, Lajos Kassák and the geometry of constructivism. The highlight of the exhibition is the syncretic vision revealed in the innermost space, framed by the artist's collection of former objects arranged around his holistic paintings. What makes the exhibition special is that Gyarmathy's works enter into a visual dialogue with the works of world-famous artists of the period, such as Hans Arp, Paul Klee, Max Bill, Joan Miró, and Étienne Beöthy.
