Zajnal: Hess madár – lemezbemutató, feat. Olivier Gémin (HU/FR)

2026-03-21T19:00:00.000Z

Groovy neofolk from Budapest's eighth district, where Hungarian folk instruments have lost their way in the maze of electronic music. Unbridled ecstasy, grooves pulsating with unusual rhythms, melancholic reverie, interspersed with moments of joyful abandon. Zajnal's music is a journey in which the band members take the audience by the hand and lead them through their own slightly strange inner world, so that they don't feel so alone in it. The bass guitar and cajon provide the basis for the grooves, accompanied by the Transylvanian shepherd's flute with all its roughness and subtlety, the zither and the doromb – though not quite in the way the folk police would expect. As a result of their long study of folk music, the band has become entangled in a world of melodies that they cannot escape, no matter how much they try. Surprising musical twists, intimate and slightly dissonant atmospheres, ancient dance music: in other words, groovy neofolk.

At this concert, Zajnal will present its new single, Hess madár (Hess Bird). During the three parts of the nearly twenty-minute musical flow, the band delves deeper and deeper into the motifs that weave through the entire trilogy. It is an instrumental story that requires quietness and intimate moments to be told – the band will highlight this side of themselves at the concert. They met guest artist Olivier Gémin at an international creative camp. The virtuoso French cellist has spent the last few years traveling the world and learning different folk music styles. We will have the opportunity to witness their fortunate encounter for a second time.
