The most famous ballet performance in history, Tchaikovsky's immortal music and a legendary love story: this is Swan Lake, now being performed for the first time in Pécs by the Ukrainian Classical Ballet at the Kodály Center.
One of the best-known stories from the world of Russian romantic fairy tales, it tells the story of an eternal but tragic love between Prince Siegfried and Princess Odette, who is under an evil curse. It explores the eternal struggle between good and evil and the all-conquering power of love. Tchaikovsky's first ballet is famous not only for its spectacular choreography, but also for its deep emotional content.
Swan Lake is now a symbol of classical ballet and one of the most frequently performed pieces, posing a special technical and artistic challenge, as the same ballerina plays both Odette, the pure, innocent white swan, and Odile, the seductive, manipulative black swan. The iconic scene in the second act, the 32 fouetté en tournant, is one of the greatest technical challenges in ballet history. This feat tests not only the dancer's physical strength but also her artistic expressiveness, while the swan in her snow-white tutu has become a symbol of the noblest tradition of dance.
What makes this performance special is that the Ukrainian Classical Ballet works with leading dancers and soloists from the most prestigious theaters in Europe and around the world, guaranteeing an artistic experience of the highest standard. Their festive performance pays worthy tribute to one of the greatest works in ballet literature, while infusing the classic story with freshness, offering an unforgettable experience for all ages.
