Lidia Yuknavitch grows up in an environment torn by violence and alcohol, her life drifting toward self-destruction and failure for a long time. After breaking away from her family and going to college, she finds refuge in literature, where words slowly grant her unexpected freedom.
The Chronology of Water, an adaptation of Yuknavitch’s bestselling autobiography, follows Lidia’s journey to finding her own voice and explores how personal trauma can be transformed into art.
Kristen Stewart’s directorial feature film debut premiered in 2025 in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes International Film Festival. The film received critical acclaim and won, among other awards, the Grand Prize at the CineFest Miskolc International Film Festival.
